Japan Box Office: ‘Pirates’ Wins Weekend Ahead of ‘Witch’s Flower’

Disney’s “Pirates of a Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” gave a foe no entertain during a Japanese box office for a Jul 8-9 frame, holding a tip mark for a second weekend. The film warranted $6.5 million on 490,000 admissions, while pushing a nine-day accumulative sum to $22.8 million.

Leading a 3 new entries was animation “Mary and a Witch’s Flower.” Directed by former Studio Ghibli hitmaker Hiromasa Yonebayashi from Mary Stewart’s children’s novel of a same pretension and constructed by Studio Ponoc, a new animation residence founded by Yonebayashi and other Ghibli veterans, a film done $3.75 million from 458 screens. The measure is 13% improved than a director’s final film, “When Marnie Was There,” that finished with $31 million in 2014.
Debuting during series six, was a thriller “John Wick Chapter 2,” with Pony Canyon distributing on 138 screens. Space adventure, “Life” with Sony releasing on 150 screens, non-stop in tenth.
